New Haircut!

Hello, lovelies!

Hope you're all having a great weekend so far! So yesterday, I decided to hack my hair off. My hair had grown much too long (it was at least 5 inches longer than the longest part of my hair right now) and it was getting far too annoying for my taste. Well, there goes my goal of fishtail braiding my hair :p.

Anyway, here it is:

I've had the inverted bob done before but the slant wasn't as... Slanty. New word!

I was thinking of dyeing my hair as well. I was either going to do an ombré effect of just dye it red (which I've also done before, so I know it suits me). But after seeing my hair in this photo, I can't bring myself to dye it. It just looks so healthy

So, let's take a poll:

Should I dye my hair?
If so, ombré or red?

AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN HAIR HAIR

African-American Women Hair Care Tips

For most African-American females, their hair is the most important thing in their lives and as such, it is very important that their hair be maintained in a well-kept manner. No matter what type of hairstyle, you as an African-American deserve to have the best hair possible. The tips below will show you how this can be done.

Too Much Heat?

• Before using a hair straightener, or another heated hair tool, wash and dry your hair thoroughly. If your hair becomes frizzled, do not do it again, as this will damage your hair.
• To retain the quality and shine of your hair, instead to using hair straighteners all the time, style your hair with buns, braid outs, and French rolls. This will put less stress on your hair and rest the follicles in your hair.
• Very important: Before you go to bed, wrap or pin your hair up in a scarf. This will protect it from being damaged while in bed. Plus, it keeps your hair smooth.
• Before you go to bed, if applicable, unwind your hair to let it rest. The best way to do this is by using a wide-toothed comb.
• At night, use a moisture solution (a hair oil or serum) to keep the ends of your hair straight and moist. This should be done before rolling or wrapping your hair in a scarf. This will keep it moist all night long.

Regular Maintenance

• To keep your hair smooth and shining, do not go longer than a week without washing your hair. If you do this, your hair will become very brittle and dry. If you believe that washing your hair on a regular basis is a bad thing, it is not. In fact, keeping your hair washed will make your hair to last longer and your hair will maintain its good smell.
• Around every 2-6 months, you should trim the ends of your hair. Doing this will keep it healthy and looking very nice.

Around every other week, with the use of a hooded hair dryer, you should deep condition your hair. The heat from the dryer will cause the conditioner in your hair to go right into your scalp.

MORE NEW HAIR TRENDS

More New Hair Trends for
What a crazy year 2008 has been, for people all over the world. We have experienced historic elections, a declining economy, and rising gas prices. But, through it all, there’s one thing that has not changed. That is the coming of new hair trends, for the upcoming year.

Girl hairstyle

Yes, new hairstyles are in this year – with new colors and cuts. To most people, adopting a new hairstyle can uplift their spirits and change the way you feel about life. While most people have ideas as to what hairstyles to adopt, others do not.

Short hairstyle

So, for those that need a few tips on how to spruce up their hair, you should try the following:

- Let your hair grow out, if you have bangs or short hair.

-Add or shorten your hair, if you have long or banged hair.

Banged hair

Here is what is in style for the upcoming year:

- Long and short bangs are still in fashion – no matter what size, shape, or color they are in, so if you have any, just change them up.

- Do not forget to change the color of your hair, when you’re changing the style of your hair.

For the upcoming year, you should consider using these colors when having your hair done:

Red Color HairstyleBrown, brunette, dark red, and light blond. In the springtime of 2009, you should use peroxide blond as the main color of your hair.

2009 will be the year of extreme hairstyles – colors and everything, so if you want to go extreme with your hair, then you should do it.

FRINGE BANG STYLE

Fringe Bang Style: The Perfect ’09 Cut

Jennifer Anniston wore it and it styled perfectly. Why not you?

Fringe bang hairstyles are cuts that have so many fun variations--great for the young ladies and those in their teens. The cut goes well past the eyes and redeems a few facial features like a high forehead. A subtle style can go with straight and wavy hair. But don’t sprint to your hairdresser just yet. There are a few points you have to consider before undergoing the razors.

Black fringe hair

For manageable straight hair, the bangs can go at any length depending on how you feel looks good on you. But, for disheveled curly or wavy hair, a shorter and blunter cut would be ideal. To complement the effect, trimming asymmetrical and angular cuts is best. You can also have it highlighted for a more dramatic effect.
Back of Fring hair

Popular types of fringe bangs are shattered, side swept, choppy, and extreme asymmetrical bangs and fringes.

Shattered or disconnected bangs: cut extreme angles that drop sharply on the sides
Side swept bangs: sweep off your long length bangs to one side for a classy and elegant look. This is best for thick hair because it offers lots of movement.

Monthly Favourites - August 2010

SEPTEMBER ALREADY?!

The year is going by so fast! I feel so unproductive! Alas, that won't change until I get a job. This month's favourites will be on the smaller side because, as I said, I am jobless and therefore broke. Nevertheless, here are my faves from the month of August.

1. Sigma E25 Brush
My favourite brush of the moment. It's great for applying eyeshadow all over the lid and it's fantastic for blending. On top of that, it's super soft and has not shed in the few months I've had it. The E25 is one of the few brushes I have that I want to have a duplicate of.

2. Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro - Steel Grey
A perfect way to transition from summer to fall; this colour is not only gorgeous, it's also multifaceted. In some angles, you get a straight up grey. In some, you see a bit of greige. In yet another, you see a hint of purple. Well, this is what I see, at least. Also, the formula's quite nice. It applies fairly evenly and dries quickly. A plus if, like me, you're too impatient to wait for your nails to dry.

3. MAC Mineralize Blush - Dainty
I recently realized I don't have a true pink blush. I'm late to the whole mineralize game but I'm so glad I picked this up. It's the perfect pink for me (not too blue) and applies very nicely. I've taken to applying this with a Sigma F50 which gives it a more airbrushed look.

4. MAC Eyeshadow - Naked Lunch
Such a gorgeous eyeshadow! This is probably what I reach for the most when it comes to everyday looks. I would normally apply Naked Lunch all over my lid and define the crease with whatever tickles my fancy. It looks like a plain beige on the pan but it has a pink/peach undertone to it which is quite evident when applied to the lid. It also has a nice shimmer.

5. Neutrogena UltraSheer Water-Light Daily Face Sunscreen
Don't let the term "Water-Light" fool you. This is actually not that liquidy when applied to the skin so you don't need a lot. The best part about this sunscreen is that it makes your makeup apply even better. Getting sun protection and priming your skin? It sounds too good to be true, but I assure you, it works! My foundation always looks much better when I've applied this after a moisturizer.

6. Lush Shower Gel - Rub Rub Rub
I love this shower gel! It has a gorgeous floral scent that is quite invigorating. It also has exfoliating properties (sea salt) so my skin always feels smooth afterwards. It's not very moisturizing, but I don't have very dry skin so it's not a problem for me. This is such an awesome product to use in the mornings, it always puts me in a good mood.

7. Garnier Fructis Curls & Shine Mousse
This curls my hair so amazingly! Granted, I do have naturally wavy/curly hair, but no other product makes my curls look as nice. It smells lovely, as all Garnier Fructis products to, and gives my hair fantastic volume. Love this!

What are your August faves?

Garnier Fructis Curls & Shine Mousse

When I was in high school, I was always blowing my hair out. Not a good look considering I have a fair amount of hair. Not only that, but each strand is also thick. I mean, really. Then one day I thought, "why don't I curl my hair today?" So I did. And I liked it. And I blew my hair out and curled every day from that day on. Damaged hair, galore!

Now, imagine my surprise when I found out my hair was actually naturally wavy/curly. I was doing all that work for nothing! Nowadays, I just allow my hair to do what it does and it helps that I'm partial to wavier locks anyway. So in order for me to achieve a great curl naturally, I need a diffuser (that large contraption you attach to a blow dryer) and a good product. I've tried countless products for curly hair and so far I've only encountered 1.

Well, make that 2. Because the Garnier Fructis Curls & Shine Mousse is fantastic! It really makes my hair curl the way I want it to (keep in mind, I have natural waves) and it holds the curl throughout the day. It also smells wonderful, like all Garnier Fructis products do.

It's a traditional mousse, which I apply to my hair in a "scrunching" method. I then blow dry with a diffuser and just scrunch away until my hair is completely dry. I have nothing to say regarding the "anti-humidity" claim since I live in Vancouver and humidity is not something you experience here.

I can verify the "long-lasting" claim, though. Which is fantastic if, like me, you don't like to bother with touch ups. But be warned, use too much and your hair will  get crunchy! A small price to pay if you want long-lasting curls, though. This isn't a problem for me since my hair doesn't look crunchy and since I don't have anyone else fingers running through my hair except mine (I'm always fiddling with my hair, it's a bit of a nervous habit).

Here's a shot of my hair after applying product and blow drying. I tilted my hair off to one side so you can get a better look at how it makes my hair curl. Like I said, I've tried countless products before this one. My previous go-to product was LaCoupe's Define Curl Shaping Gel, which I still do love. But I didn't get the same kind of curl as I did with the Curls & Shine Mousse. So, sorry, LaCoupe, you've been dethroned. Don't worry, I'll still reach for you now and then.

Curly hair is my go-to hairstyle, what's yours?

Ins & Outs - 8/15/2010

I've been inspired by Ins & Posts from various blogs and I decided to contribute in my own humble way. So here it is:

INS

-Sleek Palettes: Seriously, I sound like a broken record, but I love them so much!)
-My hair: It's at a length right now where nearly every day is a good hair day. Sadly, I know this will not last long.
-Nail Polish: I'm not too keen on painting my fingernails too much, but I always feel pampered when I'm sporting freshly applied nail polish.
-Day old fragrance: You know when you spray, say, a sweater, with perfume and you smell it a day later? There's that muted scent that's turned just a bit muskier (because of the fabric or the environment, I don't really know). Anyway, I absolutely love it! Is it weird that I do?
-Reading:

(InStyle September Issue, FASHION Magazine September Issue, &
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)

Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to even crack The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but I'm so excited to start reading it. All the hype surrounding the American version of the film had gotten me quite intrigued so I knew I had to find out what all the fuss was about. Of course, we all know novels are much more all-encompassing than their celluloid counterparts so it's always a good idea to read the book first. Thanks to Marie at All Things Marie for spurring my decision to go out and get this book!

OUTS

-This weather: Goodness, I am so ready to bust out the cardigans and the scarves! It's an oppressive 29º today (84ºF). And despite having spent a decade of my life in the Philippines, I have to say I am not made for this weather.
-Breakouts: Will blemishes ever be an in? Do I even need to say any more?
-Being jobless: I've been jobless for longer than I care to admit and I'm past the point of utter frustration. Somebody, PLEASE hire me!

Hope everyone had a marvelous weekend
&
