Beauty TAG: My Perfect Imperfections

So I saw this TAG all over YouTube about a week ago and I decided to do it for my blog. The premise is, you have to pick 3 things about yourself that you don't like and 3 things that you do. I hesitate to call them "perfections" because we all know there's no such thing, but that's what the TAG's called so I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon :p.

To make this simpler, I'll stick with beauty/physical/superficial related things; and I'll tell you right now, picking just three imperfections is a challenge because goodness knows I have way more than that. Haha!

1. My Calves

They're HUGE. 

Seriously... This means I can't ever wear boots that zip up and those that don't, well... Unless they're incredibly roomy, I pretty much have to go a size up in order for it to fit. Ohhh joy :p.

2. My Moles

Yes, they're called beauty marks, but I find that doesn't quite apply when you have 10 of them on your face. They don't bother me as much, though; I've grown to accept them as I've gotten older. But I'd still like to get rid of a few of the bigger ones.

3. My Overall Body Shape

I have a wide and curvy build; add that to a short frame and it's pretty difficult to find clothes that fit you properly. Though I enjoy shopping, it can get pretty discouraging when you can only fit 1 out of the 10 items you try on. 

1. My Eyebrows

I've never paid much attention to my eyebrows until I started sharing my eye looks and people started pointing them out to me. I've been doing my own eyebrows since I was in my early teens and I've never had any professional do them, ever. Needless to say, I'm quite proud of them :p.

2. My Hair

I used to straighten my hair all the time when I was in high school. And when I wanted it curly, I'd blow dry it straight first, then I'd curl with an iron. Hair damage, galore! Then I figured out I actually have naturally wavy/curly hair. I've also stopped dyeing my hair so it's the healthiest its ever been. Also, my hair is coarse, which is a pain when you want to straighten (something I don't do often); but it means I can pretty much style it and it keeps its shape. It also means that while my fellow dancers were teasing their hair into oblivion for our 80s piece, all I had to do was tilt my head down, apply hairspray, and voila: BIG HAIR!

3. My Dimples

Coz who doesn't like dimples? :D

Caution: Fangirling Ahead!

OMG! OMG! OMG!

How funny (and awesome) that I came home to this on the same day I blogged about my love for The Sound of Music? Granted, I did tell my brother I wanted it for Christmas, but I didn't expect to see it so soon! 

I suppose it's a good thing he picked one up when he did because there were only 250,000 copies made of this Box Set. 240,345 sounds like a good number, no?

The box itself is a beautifully hand painted and contains a letter of authenticity, among other things. Of course, there's the blu-ray disc where you can watch the film and choose to see trivia, set photos, or lyrics to sing along to. There's also a commentary by the film's stars and director.

There's also another blu-ray disc that's chock full of special features including interviews and screen tests. I haven't seen it yet, but I intend to park my rear in front of the tv tonight to watch them :p.

A DVD and the Soundtrack is also included - a bonus for me because it means I can watch the new DVD on my laptop whenever I want to. And now I've got the Soundtrack to listen to as well!

I must say the blu-ray disc is quite impressive! The colours are so vibrant, the picture is so clear, and sound is amazing. Definitely worth it to get this film on blu-ray, especially if you're a fan.

This book is pretty awesome. It contains photos and stories about the real von Trapp family, the stage musical, and the film version.

I absolutely adore this little music box. It plays My Favourite Things and there's a bit of space on the right to put little trinkets in.

Postcards of the cast in the locations they filmed at in Salzburg. It definitely makes me nostalgic and I wish I could go back again. Salzburg is a beautiful place.

This is a re-print of the original program handed out in the premier of The Sound of Music. It contains the plot, scene photos, and biographies of people who were involved in the film.

All in all, this is such a great buy! Like I said, if you're a fan like me, it's so worth it to pick this up. The book and the music box alone makes it worth it! A tip if you plan on purchasing: buy it at Costco! It usually costs around $60, but my brother bought it for only $30-something.

Road Trip, Random News, & The MAC/Rodarte Controversy

Happy Sunday, everybody! Hope you've had a wonderful weekend!

This past Friday, my family and I drove down to Vancouver, WA to spend the day with my brother, who turned 26. 

This is my favourite stretch on I5. The Pacific Northwest is truly beautiful. 

Anyway, we were only there for a day but it was a lot of fun, especially because my brother and I are close. He's the one who's really pushed me as a performer and he can make me laugh like no other person can. 

We ate at a Japanese restaurant in a place called Bridgeport Village in Portland. It's a really cute outdoor shopping centre. Sinju (the restaurant) had a great atmosphere and the design was beautiful. I think I may have said, "I like that!" about 10 times during dinner because it was decorated so wonderfully. The food, however, was another story as it left me and my parents underwhelmed. 

I had their sukiyaki. Now, I love sukiyaki but this was just meh. The soup was too salty and the meat was too tough. Even their creme brulee was nothing to be excited about. Then again, it IS creme brulee in a Japanese restaurant. Maybe I shouldn't have had any expectations.

The creme brulee wasn't, in my brother's words, "brulee'd enough." It wasn't bad... It just wasn't good. My brother had monchi and I should've ordered that instead.

Now I want some. He also had this thing called crunchy roll or something and it was SO yummy! If we ever go back to Sinju, I'll definitely be having what he had. Or maybe I'll have this:

Sound good? No? Yeah...

I also wheedled my dad to take me to Target so I can check out some products by Pixi, JK by Jemma Kidd, and Sonia Kashuk. Plus I wanted to stock up on some Boots Cleansing Milk. Following on the theme of being underwhelmed, I have to say I was overwhelmed by the Jemma Kidd and Pixi products. Although I wanted the Sonia Kashuk flat blusher brush and the Pixi illuminating tint & conceal but I wasn't interested in getting taxed at the border, so I decided against it at the moment. 

So I ended up just purchasing a backup of the Boots Cleansing Milk, which I love so much and is unfortunately unavailable in Canada, and a Sonia Kashuk cream blush (which I'll review soon).

In other random news: I changed my Twitter because my last one was hacked. All my links were coming up with a picture of a "little man" in a bikini instead of links to my blog. 

I'M. SERIOUS.

Anyway, I couldn't fix it because I'm pretty technically challenged so I decided it would be easier to make a new one instead. So if you want to add me, you can "follow" me at callit_beauty. 

So that was the embarrassing moment of the week. I really hope none of you saw that... Unless you're into that kind of thing, in which case, I won't judge. 

Also, I encourage you to read up on the MAC/Rodarte situation. Mizzworthy and Makeup Savvy both wrote great posts about it in their blogs. There is nothing else I can add to what they have said, but I will reiterate what I posted on Makeup Savvy's blog: 

I can give MAC that benefit of the doubt. But Rodarte did enough research for this line and they don't get to use ignorance as an excuse. Now, the damage has already been done. But I believe MAC can salvage the situation but they need to do a lot, and it all boils down to whether or not they believe it's worth it (and I sincerely hope they do).

So MAC says they will donate proceeds to help the situation in Juarez. That's commendable, really it is. But they need to be accountable to us, the consumer, and to the women of Juarez whose realities are being exploited for the monetary gain of two very well known companies. 

Step up, MAC. Show us that you care enough for these women.
